I am deeply rooted in the area of my youth. Growing up near the shores of Lake Michigan, I have a great reverence for nature that is my source of artistic–inspiration. Nature has a way of presenting itself new and continually challenging me. The aspect of picture-making which intrigues me most is to leave myself open to reactive change and to remember that a detour, at times arduous, may in fact lead me to something more interesting. Printmaking has proven to be a very satisfying way for me to explore the complexities of life while on the way to finding a picture. Woodblock and copper plate are the materials I use to create original prints.

The aspect of creating ceramics in the Nerikomi style, and colored clay both intrigues and keeps me curious. I create patterns and shapes with colored clay, by turning, stacking, cutting and layering. These become my inspiration to then spontaneously place these shapes next to each other that make larger patterns. Ceramics is a gratifying way for me to explore the intricacy of nature’s natural patterns, textures and color in 3 dimension.
